In Hungary, three voluntary forms receive a personal-income-tax credit for pension purposes: pension insurance, the voluntary pension fund, and NYESZ. They aren't rivals – they suit different temperaments. This decision map is the fastest way to work out which one fits you.
The voluntary pension fund is a community-based form: chosen portfolios, relatively simple operation, and the advantage that it can also receive an employer contribution. NYESZ is a securities account with a pension label: for anyone who likes investing on their own, it's the most flexible and typically the lowest-cost route – in exchange, every decision is theirs. Pension insurance is a contractual form: with asset funds or a classic structure, insurance elements you can add, and strong commitment power – and that last part is exactly its secret: it's harder to give up along the way.
The cost level for all three forms depends on the design – it's worth comparing item by item, not by rumour (method). The detailed pairwise comparisons: vs. the fund, vs. NYESZ.
And yes – the forms can be combined too, by aligning the credit caps.
Delaying. Which form you pick matters less than whether you've started at all: time is the most important resource in every one of these forms (the power of time). Anyone who has spent six months sitting on the 'which one should I choose' question has already left six months of credit and growth on the table.
A practical way out: start with whichever form the four questions point to, and revisit the rest at the next anniversary – a plan is a living thing.
As a broker, I run a competitive comparison across the pension-insurance market – I don't broker pension funds or NYESZ, but in the comparison I show you honestly when the balance tips their way. My needs assessment is built around this: life situation, goal, risk tolerance – and only then the product.
If it turns out at the end that pension insurance isn't right for you right now, I'll say that too. The goal is that you still think it was a good decision ten years from now – not that you sign something today. The 2-minute quiz is a good first filter; for the full picture: a free consultation.
